Father’s Day is almost here. I’m sure {unless he was living in a cave} that he arranged something really nice for Mother’s Day for you. Now, what to do for him? Does he need some new tools, or a dress shirt for work? I’ve got news for you, very few men get excited about a new dress shirt for work. They may pretend, but not really.
I think most dads would just be happy spending some relaxing quality time with their kids and family. And here’s a great gift you can give dad that doesn’t involve much time or effort, but can have a lasting impact for years to come.
Get out your point-and-shoot cameras, smart phones, or DSLRs. The quality of the camera doesn’t make a difference, it the quality of the moment that counts.
Here are some tips on capturing those special moments.
- Have dad throwing or chasing the kids around. No matter what, this usually always results in fits of giggle and smiles from both participants. To capture this you have to be pretty quick on the trigger. My advice, as always, is it’s digital, snap as many shots as you can, then go through and find the best ones, and delete the rest. This one is really fun!
- Just sitting and relaxing together is cool too. They don’t all have to be crazy moments. Whether looking at the camera, where you can see they share a certain trait, or a candid moment of sitting watching TV in the same position, it’s the moment that counts and not the technical stuff.
- Their faces don’t have to be in the frame. Dad walking hand in hand with his son or daughter is always a pretty cute image, that is timeless and meaningful.
- And lastly, PRINT THE IMAGE! Yes, you have it on your phone or Instagram, and it is on the computer, but there is nothing like having a print in your hand. A print he can take for his desk at work, or tape to the inside of his briefcase to see every time her opens it, or the underside of his sun visor. You can even surprise him and hide it in one of those places for him to find. It will make his day.
That’s the magic of a gift like this, it just keeps on giving. And yes, you may not have the print for him on Father’s day, but he won’t mind. The surprise will be great a few days or weeks later, and will mean more than that blue shirt or new undies you got him.
Enjoy this Father’s Day and I’d love to see what you capture. Post to Facebook and Tag @NicolaBorlandPhotography and share those special moments to inspire others.
