There’s something about photographing teenagers that always pulls at my heart—especially when it’s a milestone session. This particular shoot, celebrating a 14-year-old right on the edge of growing up, reminded me how much I love the simple, quiet beauty of real moments.
I’ve had the joy of photographing this Pasadena family for years. Watching their daughter grow has been such a gift, and this time felt especially meaningful. At 14, she’s no longer a little kid, but not quite an adult either. It’s a tender, in-between moment that passes far too quickly—and I knew I wanted to capture that sense of calm, strength, and soft self-assurance that she carries so effortlessly.
We kept everything simple. No props, no overly styled outfits—just beautiful, natural light and the comfort of being surrounded by family. And honestly, that’s where the magic happens. When people feel safe, seen, and relaxed, the most beautiful expressions come forward.

One of my favorite shots from the session was a quiet moment where she was just standing in the golden light, eyes closed, smiling softly. No posing. Just being. Those are the kinds of images that feel timeless to me—the ones that you’ll look back on and instantly remember how that season of life felt.

f you’re in the Pasadena area and thinking about a milestone portrait for your teen, or just want to press pause and celebrate your family as you are right now, I’d love to help you do that. You don’t need a big occasion or an elaborate setup. Sometimes the simplest moments are the ones we treasure most.
