Tips on Photographing an Event {Pasadena Event Photographger}

Ever take pictures at a birthday party?  How about at your child’s preschool graduation?  Do you ever use your camera on vacations?  If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then you will find these tips very useful in improving your photographs at the most exciting and memorable events in your life.

It doesn’t matter if you are shooting with your iPhone, your point and click camera or a fancy DSLR.  The important thing is that you are capturing the event and documenting the memories.  Most people will shoot pictures of the people at events, but not capture the details that make the event so special.  Here are two different shots that you may want to also grab!

  1.  Back up and shoot the entire event.  Getting a “bird’s eye” view of the event is a great way to remember where you are, who was there, and how special everything about the event was.   So, when you have a minute, just back up and get a shot with everything about the event in the frame of your camera.  It doesn’t have to be a master piece, just make sure you get the shot.
  2.  Scoot in and shoot the details.  Many special events include hours of preparation and dollars to make them that special.  So, grab pictures of all the little details too.   If it’s a Birthday party, get a picture of the cake, and even just the topper, as well as other decoration details.  If it’s a graduation, take a picture of the cap, or even closer, get the tassle.  Are you capturing a vacation?  Don’t forget to shoot a picture of your Disneyland tickets, or your favorite treat like the churros!

You’ll find that by getting the whole event and the little details along with all the fun candid shots you normally take at an event will really enhance your picture taking skills, and make the memory that much more fun!
